Born and raised in Philadelphia, Marla began her ballet training at 3 years of age. At age 10 she began studying the Vaganova syllabus under John White and Margarita de Saa at the Pennsylvania Academy of Ballet, and furthered her training through summer programs at the Joffrey Ballet in NYC where she received full scholarships. As a professional dancer Marla has worked with the Sarasota Ballet of Florida, Opus 1 Contemporary, Atlanta Ballet, and from 1995 – 2000 as a guest artist with Pennsylvania Ballet. She had the honor of performing with the Pa. Ballet at a national Balanchine Celebration at the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C. Marla has been teaching at Dancexpress since 1996.
Melissa has been dancing since the age of 4. She was trained at Debbie Apalucci’s Touch of Class where she also taught for 6 years. She was involved in their production of The Nutcracker and their traveling group Dancertainers. Melissa has competed in national competitions which were held in Orlando, Las Vegas, and Atlantic City. She has also performed at Disney’s Magic Kingdom and Epcot while in Florida for competition. She has attended many workshops taught by Joe Lanteri and Frank Hatchett. She has performed during halftime at a 76ers game and at a Phillies game. Melissa was on the Philadelphia Kixx dance team for three years and was captain for two.
Cathy has been with the Dancexpressstaff since 2000. Working as the studio manager, she ensures that every aspect of the studio is run in an efficient and organized manner. She is a dedicated individual who loves her job. Her goal is to promote the growth of Dancexpress.
Kim Fynes began dancing at the age of 3. Her training includes Jazz, Tap, and Ballet. Kim joined Dancexpress in2004 after returning from College. She attended Loyola College in Maryland where she was a member of the Dance Team that performed at halftime for basketball games as well as many other events. The Team also competed in Disney World. Becoming a member of the Loyola College Dance Company her Freshman year, she taught jazz in addition to taking several classes and performing in the annual spring show.
Shelly graduated from Neumann College magma cum laude with a B.A. in Elementary and Early childhood Education. She has been teaching at Dancexpress since 2002. She teaches 3, 4, and 5 year olds, 2nd year jazz and special needs jazz. She earned her certification in special education in June of 2007 from Immaculata University. She is currently an in a graduate program through Wilkes University.Shelly has been attending the Pulse on Tour for the past few years in Atlantic City, New Jersey and has taken class from Brian Friedman, Wade Robson, Chris Judd, and many other world renowned choreographers.
Tammy Turberville’s love of dance began at the age of three when she began her training at Touch of Class dance studio where she was a student for over 15 years. She began competing at the local and national levels in Jazz and Tap, and as a teenager was selected to dance for Maurice Hines’ “Celebration of Tap Dance” in Philadelphia. Tammy went on to teach for TOC as well as for Plymouth and Haverford’s Recreation Departments. Tammy lives in Media with her husband and two children and continues to take classes locally and at Broadway Dance Center in New York City. She recently attended the Pulse on Tour in Atlantic City, New Jersey where she took class from world famous choreographers including Chris Judd, Wade Robson, Mia Michaels, Tyce Diorio, and Wade Robson.
Meg has been dancing since she was three years old. She started my training at LeRoux School of Dance (Conshohocken) where she took classes for about 12 years before attending Steppin’ Out Academy of Performing Arts (Oaks) where Meg studied for four years. She has performed in numerous local and national competitions including Tremaine and Company Dance along with many appearances in the Boscov’s Thanksgiving Day parades and Sunoco’s Welcome America Parades in Philadelphia. Meg took part in an off-broadway NYC production, Break the Floor and was Dance Captain for many musical productions including Grease, Footloose, and Fame, and was a Spanish lead in the Nutcracker. Finally, during her college years Meg was a dancer at Sesame Place for three seasons in which she performed in full-choreographed shows and parades. Meg has also attended the Pulse on Tour in Atlantic City where she took classes from so many world famous choreographers. Recently, she returned to her high school as choreographer of Beauty and the Beast. Meg is thrilled to be returning to Dance Express for her fourth year of teaching at the studio!
Angel Passarelli, who is currently a Senior at the Country Day School of the Sacred Heart in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, started dancing at the Dancexpress Studio at the age of 2.Since then she has been taking jazz, tap, hip-hop and ballet classes every year. Her love for dance has expanded to her teaching at the studio for the last 5 years as well.Angel auditioned for the Philadelphia 76’ers Junior Dance Team at a young age. She has also studied the Phildanco and Koresh Dance Studios in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.For the past 6 years, Angel has attended the Pulse on Tour in Hollywood, Florida and also in Atlantic City, New Jersey.She has performed in the Pulse Showcase for the past 5 years and has taken classes from world famous choreographers such as Dave Scott, Laurie Ann Gibson, Brian Friedman, and Chris Judd.
Sheila has been dancing since the age of 3 and has competed nationally in Las Vegas and Orlando. She began teaching at Dancexpress in 1992 and has recently returned to the area and is thrilled to be a part of the Dancexpress staff once again. During her short time in Georgia, Sheila had the opportunity to teach creative movement at the Columbus State University Center for Performing Arts. She is currently pursuing her Masters in Education and her Teacher Certification at Cabrini College.
Kiera Missanelli has been dancing all her life and has called Dancexpress home for 13 years. A recent graduate of Penn State University where she studied a variety of dance techniques at a collegiate level, Kiera is so excited to be back with her Dancexpress family teaching hip hop and sharing her love of dance. Over her time at Dancexpress, Kiera had the opportunity to perform in regional competitions as well as The Pulse showcase and take classes with world renowned choreographers such as Brian Friedman, Laurie Ann Gibson and Dave Scott.
Schuyler Silverman, a recent graduate of Boston University’s College of Communication, has always loved performing. Schuyler was a self-taught hip-hop dancer until enrolling at Dance Express as a freshman in high school. At Dance Express she grew tremendously as a dancer, experiencing other types of dance like jazz, ballet and modern and eventually becoming a hip-hop teacher in 2010. She also taught dance at Sesame/Rockwood Day Camp in the summer of 2012. In recent years, Schuyler has remained involved with dance during her free time by taking classes and attending events in Boston as well as choreographing routines with friends. After several years without regularly performing, Schuyler has returned to Dance Express to teach hip-hop once again while interning for Without Walls, a new activewear brand by Urban Outfitters. She is very excited to re-enter her craft at a studio that is close to her heart.
Madison has been dancing at Dancexpress since she was 3, and has been teaching since she was 13. She has taken tap, jazz, and ballet every year, but trained intensely in ballet for 6 years. In the past 3 years, Madison has fell in love with hip-hop from taking classes with Matt Steffanina, Dana Alexa, at the Pulse and most recently Rosero McCoy. In the summer of 2014, she went to L.A. and took classes at Millenium Dance Complex, and IDA Hollywood for more dance experience. She has also competed with Dancexpress multiple times throughout her journey with us. Madison looks forward to teaching while she finishes out her college degree at Eastern University.
